The GuinnessMonday Club is a social club dedicated to those who enjoy a pint of “The Black Stuff” and who have sporadic meetings in various locations around the world – but only on Mondays!
The idea for a "GuinnessMonday" evolved during a transatlantic telephone conversation in 2004 between two friends–one from Texas and one from London–who were trying to arrange an evening of Guinness drinking; a mutually convenient date was organised which just happened to be a Monday…………”so let’s have a "Guinness Monday" at "McSorleys" in Fort Lauderdale, USA. At 00:01 hours a small team entered McSorleys Pub and ordered their first Guinness ensued amongst the English, American and Canadians gathered resulting in the unavoidable “Black Tuesday” - enough said !!
Over the next 3 years there were several “unofficial” Pamplona, Navarra, Spain–where a “quiet” drink between Jimmy from Texas and Alan from London (and an open invite to anyone who fancied a "O’Connors" in Pamplona was the same venue during the Guinness drinking lotharios had swelled to about 80 or 90 and Jim and Alan thought it would be a good idea to open the Guinness on a Monday with a member would then automatically enter you into the Guinness on a Monday with you would be able to join resulting in a pyramid of members.
Since August 2007 when the club was formed starting with Jim and Alan, numbers have cascaded to currently over a 100 members from a dozen different countries with bomb bursts in Pamplona , and various wedding parties in Holland, Germany, England, and of course, two visits to the home of Guinness, Dublin for Saint Patrick’s day, 2008, and 2009.
